Down Town: A Dresden Files Graphic Novel by Jim Butcher

Dresden Graphic Novel #5

I absolutely loved seeing Dresden and co have to travel to the underground world of Chicago and battle – well, for the sake of spoilers – stuff. The sarcasm was thick in this one and I loved it. I loved seeing some of the characters illustrated (Mouse’s depecition was spot on to what I imagined!)

CAWPILE Breakdown:

Characters: 7 – Some charcaters I loved seeing develop, others we saw much less.

Atmosphere/Setting: 6 – Because this was a graphic novel and thus, illustrated, there was of course less need for Butcher to paint the scene for his readers. Still I would have liked more atmosphere built into the prose. Is it fair that I include this category in a review for a graphic novel? Maybe not, but I did it and so that’s that.

Writing Style: 8 – I always apprecaited the sarcastic humor in Butcher’s writing.

Plot: 9.5 – The plot in Down Town was simple and effective – find monster, stop monster = save Chicago. It was all the additional details like character development that Butcher added in that made it more complex.

Intrigue: 8.5 – As it always is with Harry Dresden, I was intrigued to find out how he’d get out of this new mess he’s found himself in.

Logic/Relatinships: 9 – Logic: everything made absolute sense. Relationships: while some we didn’t get on the page in this graphic novel, others developed really well (some surprisingly!)

Enjoyment: 9 – Truly enjoyed and can’t wait to continue my Dresden journey.

CAWPILE Total: 57/7 = 8.14 = 4.5/5 stars

Noteable Quotes:

“Bob is a spirit of pure intellect, though you’d never know by his personality.”
